 Representation, Recognition, Resources

CCW Organization Notebook provided by the Joliet Diocesan CCW

Representation

You may already know that your Deanery President represents your Parish CCW on the Diocesan Board.  But your parish is (or can be) directly represented at each Deanery Spring Institute, at each Diocesan CCW Convention and at each National CCW Convention by two (2) Voting Delegates from your parish!  Certain decisions, including the election of new leaders, are made by these voting delegates in the respective rings of CCW.

Beyond this, the Diocesan CCW President represents all the women and affiliates of the diocese at the tri-annual meetings of the Province CCW (actually the state of Illinois, comprised of the six arch/dioceses of the state); in turn, the Province Director represents the women and affiliates of Illinois on the National CCW Board, and the NCCW represents the women and affiliates of the US at the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations, Catholic Relief Services, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and the United Nations.  It’s awesome to realize that each Parish CCW has a part in the spiritual and corporal works of women all over the world.

Recognition

One thing all councils should do on a regular basis is recognize the special services of the women and other people who help each CCW with its projects and services.  The Diocesan Council of Catholic Women provides one vehicle for this in its annual Woman of the Year Mass, celebrated by our bishop, followed by a special luncheon which also recognizes the outgoing and incoming Parish CCW Presidents.  Most parishes also have special in-parish recognitions or privileges for their own Woman of the Year.  But do you ‘recognize’ your past presidents in some fashion, either in print, or when they attend one of your current events? Other recognitions or “Thank You’s” your parish could consider are to your moderator, your own special “Thank You” to your current or outgoing president, possible recognition to members for consistent attendance, to other women in the parish who have given particular service(s) to their parish, some kind of recognitions for the various committees of your council (Hospitality, the committee which chaired your large fund-raiser, etc.)
